SUMMER BEGINS IN PARIS!

Finally, it's summer in Paris!!!!  As I have watched my Dallas home hit over 100 degrees on many days, I have waited for my Paris home to start to feel like summer.  And, voila, it has!!!!  I just needed to be patient....and this week has been in the 90's, sunny and beautiful!

Our friend, Karen, a former business associate of David's, came to Paris for a few days ,and we were able to spend some time with her.  One of the things the three of us did together was visit the Atelier de Lumieres, an art light show being done in an old foundry.  We weren't quite sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a very interesting experience.

We had tickets for a designated time, we arrived a few minutes early and were allowed into a dark walled room.  People were sitting on the floor, on steps and many just standing or walking around.  All walls then came alive as the lightshow began, first with a kaleidoscope of shapes, designs and colors then to paintings of Gustav Klimt (he of the "The Kiss" and The Woman in Gold-"Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer").  We saw his painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer last summer at the Neue Gallery in New York,  and we also saw the movie "The Woman in Gold".  So this was just an new way to see this beautiful piece of art.

It really was amazing how these images covered all surfaces of the room we were in...every wall, the floor and the ceiling.  Images coming in, going out...amazing.

Fortunately, the room was cool and large enough that we weren't crowded.  Karen and I decided to sit on the floor for a while just to rest our legs.  The problem with sitting was you couldn't see the images on the walls behind you.  So after a little sit, we both stood up where you could turn around and watch all the surfaces.

It was fun to watch this fill the entire wall

This "tree" image came onto the wall swirly branch at a time until the entire tree was in front of you.  Of course, all the while, music is playing making it even more entertaining.  I think, other than the Klimt pieces, I most enjoyed seeing these city images.  It just took you back to another time.

It was hard to remember these images weren't paintings but lights

Remember, all these images are created by lights.  The people in our pictures are, of course, the audience watching these creations appear.  It was a different way to see art and one I'm really glad we had the opportunity to experience.

The next day Karen met us for church, and we followed church with our first picnic with our new picnic set!  We stopped at the market on the way, picked up some sandwiches, fruit, cheese, and, of course, dessert and walked to Champs de Mars (by the Eiffel Tower).  It was sunny and warm so we chose a shady place to park ourselves which limited our Tower view....but we'd all seen the Tower!
It was a fun, Parisian afternoon!!!!

Come to Paris and picnic with us!!!!
Check out tomorrow because David is going to do a special Fourth of July post I think you'll enjoy.  Not fashion and fluff but history and heroes!!!!
